The less you bring outdoors, the more each thing needs to do. Eiger folds eight functions into a compact pair of scissors.
They're there for the small jobs you don't think about until the kitchen drawer is somewhere back home.
At first glance, they're still scissors. Look closer, and the handles and blades reveal a knife, can opener, bottle opener, screw-cap opener, shell cracker, prying tool, and gas-release function, all worked into the same familiar form.
Eight functions would mean little if the scissors themselves weren't worth using. Each pair is carefully made by hand in Sanjo, Niigata, Japan, with EigerTool placing particular emphasis on the sharpness of the blades.
All of that fits into a tool just 5.1 inches (13 cm) long and 1.87 oz (53 g). It sits in the palm of your hand and leaves plenty of room for everything else you're bringing.
The scissors travel inside the included leather case. A red NITE IZE carabiner clips it directly to your bag, keeping the tool within reach without taking up space inside your pack.
EigerTool chose red specifically for visibility, making the case easier to spot among the rest of your gear.
The black surface isn't simply there for appearance. An oxidation coloring treatment improves the stainless steel's weather and corrosion resistance while creating subtle variations from one pair to the next.
The tone also shifts with the viewing angle, giving a treatment chosen for protection a visual character of its own.
Packing for the outdoors means deciding what might be useful before you know what the day will ask for.
Most of the time, the scissors may simply cut open a package or help with something around camp. Then you need to open a bottle, loosen a stubborn lid, or deal with some small job you hadn't planned for, and the tool already in your hand can handle that too.
You may not use all eight functions on every trip. That's not really the point. Their value is in not having to know which one you'll need before you leave.
